West Haven Chamber of Commerce serves up sixth annual Restaurant Week

The West Haven Chamber of Commerce is holding its sixth annual West Haven Restaurant Week for residents to discover a local favorite or learn about a new place.

During Restaurant Week, Oct. 16-22, participating restaurants will offer either specially priced entrees at $21 or $12 lunch specials. The event allows for people to sample the diverse menus at lower prices and encourages them to support local businesses.


“We’ve put together a wonderful selection of restaurants that include some favorites and some people that are new to the West Haven scene,” chamber Director Alan Olenick said.

Participating restaurants include Duffy’s Tavern, App’s Ristorante, 744 West Bar & Grill, Oyster River Tavern, Elm Diner, Cappetta’s Italian Imports, West End Bistro, Sweet Relief Catering, Mike’s Apizza, Savin Rock Roasting Company, Lorenzo’s and Louise’s Homemade Food & Baked Goods & Catering.


West End Bistro, located at 551 Main St., has only been open for a year and is participating in its first Restaurant Week. Owners Jeff and Lynette Lamberti use a combination of creative dishes and fresh ingredients to attract a large following.


“We look forward to Restaurant Week so we can showcase our food and friendly atmosphere,” Jeff Lamberti said. “We hope this will give us a boost so people can find out what the buzz is about.”


Chris Walsh, owner of Duffy’s Tavern at 241 Campbell Ave. and co-chair of Restaurant Week, said the event provides the opportunity for area residents to go out and discover the city’s many different restaurants.


“We always see some new faces, which is good,” Walsh explained. “We also see some people who make a point of coming in and saying hello as part of support for the event and the city.”


Mayor Edward M. O’Brien said he looks forward to Restaurant Week, as it gives the community an opportunity to showcase itself and its fabulous restaurants.


“I know all the participants, and the diversity being offered should allow every resident to find something great for eating out a few times throughout the week,” O’Brien said. “The chamber has put on a top-notch event, which is a win for the restaurants and a win for the residents to get pricing that encourages them to dine out.”


Carol Apicella, owner of App’s Ristorante at 283 Captain Thomas Blvd. and co-chair of Restaurant Week, said the event is also a good opportunity for chamber members to encourage their employees to dine out for lunch or dinner.


“We’ve all been working to create exciting menus to give our residents and surrounding communities the opportunity to experience our restaurants any night of the week. For $21, you get an appetizer, entree and dessert,” Apicella said. “Help us celebrate what West Haven has to offer. Come and enjoy West Haven Restaurant Week October 16th -22nd.”


Another newcomer to Restaurant Week is Sweet Relief Catering, 224 Campbell Ave., owned by Eric Rogers. Sweet Relief is offering a catered luncheon for employers in the area as a way to try what his company has to offer.


“While we are not a restaurant, we do offer great food and wanted to give back to the community,” Rogers said. “We want employers to know that if they cannot let their employees out for lunch, we can provide a great meal for 20 people at a special price during Restaurant Week only.”


The West Haven Chamber of Commerce will also be holding a mid-week lunch on Oct.19th at the University of New Haven’s Jeffery’s Fusion Restaurant and Catering which serves as an on-site foodservice management training facility for students pursuing Hospitality and Tourism Management degrees at the University of New Haven. Established in 2007 by UNH alumnus Jeffery Hazell, the facility offers faculty guidance and students are responsible for the entire operation including sales, service, production, administration, and sanitation.
